How to Become a Firefighter

Welcome to How to Become a Firefighter. If you are seriously driven to become a firefighter, we salute you. Firefighting is challenging, interesting, rewarding, and one of America's top jobs. In fact, we saw one survey recently that showed firefighting as the most respected career in the U. S., ahead of doctors and even college professors.

That's the good news.  The not-so-good news is that it is not easy to become a firefighter.  It would be nice if you could just walk down to your local fire station, hand in an application, and start the next day, but it just doesn't work that way.  In fact, firefighting has become such a desirable occupation, that the competition for every opening in just about every fire department has become fierce.
